Crosley Dryer
Going Green With A Crosley Dryer“Going Green” is a fashionable concept and there are green living tips popping up on all the popular media. Drying clothes on an outside line is the epitome of environmentally-friendly living. However, line drying is not possible or practical for everyone. Apartment dwellers have no access to clotheslines. Neighborhood Associations enforce protective covenants against erecting clotheslines in suburban backyards. Inhospitable climates for outside drying and personal infirmities cause many to turn to a Crosley Dryer for their clothes drying needs. Dryer use can be tweaked to become more efficient and “green” friendly. Before UseDo not use the dryer on a day of high humidity, such as during or directly after a rain. The dryer works by pulling air from the room into the dryer and heating it. The heated air circulates through the clothes. The Crosley Dryer works most efficiently when it is pulling dry, rather than damp air in. On a nice day, open the laundry-room window to allow warm moist air from the dryer to escape and let dry air in. The hose leading from the dryer to the outside vent should be securely fastened at both ends. A loose hose leaks warm, damp air back into the room. This hose should just be long enough to span the distance from dryer to vent. A too-long hose allows lint to build up and inhibits airflow from the dryer. Empty the lint trap if necessary. Not only is a full trap a fire hazard, it keeps humid air from escaping the dryer. A full trap increases the drying time on each load. Clean clogged screens with a toothbrush and water. Loading the DryerDo not overload the dryer. It takes much longer to dry a packed load because the warm air cannot circulate through the clothes properly. After removing clothes from the washing machine, give them a shake before tossing into the dryer. This also improves air circulation and decreases drying time. If the Crosley Dryer has a moisture sensor, use it. The sensor can tell when the clothes are dry and shut the dryer off. This is a more efficient option than setting the timer. It is possible to lean toward the green lifestyle and still use a Crosley Dryer. Operating this appliance more efficiently reduces fossil fuel use and is easier on the environment and the budget. |
